Wasteland 2, Elite: Dangerous to receive Xbox/Playstation ports

Wasteland and Elite – two classic games that received modern updates last year thanks to Kickstarter donations. This week at the Game Developers Conference, inXile (Wasteland 2) and Frontier Developments (Elite: Dangerous) announced console ports of their respective games.

Wasteland 2

Wasteland 2 – the sequel to the 1988 post-apocalyptic RPG – was one of the early crowdfunding successes, raising nearly $3 million on Kickstarter alone. Released in 2014, it received numerous accolades.  The updated and improved Game of the Year edition is slated for a late summer 2015 release on both Xbox One and Playstation 4.

Elite: Dangerous

The original open-world spaceflight simulator, Elite was released in 1984 for the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron home computers. It eventually found its way to several other platforms and was succeeded by a handful of sequels, though the series went dormant as space sims fell out of favor in the late 90s.

Another crowdfunding success, Elite: Dangerous was released in late 2014.  Ports for OSX and Xbox One have been announced for 2015.  A Playstation 4 port will happen “down the line.”

Editor’s note: I backed Wasteland 2 on Kickstarter, but have received no compensation other than the designated reward.
